PROJECT: JDA BLOCK B-17 FIELD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MUDA PRODUCTION PLATFORM (MDPP) FOR CPOC PROJECT IN S.M.O.E. YARD

Tendering exercise began in April 2007 and commenced contract negotiation in May 2007 for a project contractual period of 23 months from 1st Aug 2007 to 31st July 2009. We were awarded with the Letter of Intent on 25th July 2007 thereafter followed by a Kick-off meeting on 26th July 2007.

Our first scaffold was erected for a steel structure in workshop 6 on 27th July 2007 then followed by workshop 3 and 1. We started erecting pancake scaffolds for the Lower Deck (chocked up 8m from ground level) on 10th Aug 2007 at berth 9 followed by Main Deck on 5th Sept 2007 at Bethlehem and Upper Deck on 20th Sept 2007 at berth 10.

Onwards, scaffold erections were extensively for steel structure columns, bracings installation and welding. Huge shelters were erected for blasting & painting. Thereafter all scaffolds were dismantled for lifting and stacking operations of Main Deck (in 2 parts) on 10th March 2008 / 11th March 2008 and Upper Deck (in 2 parts) on 7th April 2008 / 8th April 2008.

At this stage, erecting the suspended scaffolds underneath the Main deck and Upper Deck were extremely difficult and also a challenging task to maintain them till load out. The bulk of the scaffolds requirements were extremely demanding to cater to all disciplines like structural, blasting & painting, piping, mechanical, E&I, HVAC, insulations, fire-proofing, commissioning and etc.

Simultaneously, scaffolds were erected on ground level for the telecom tower, LER, LAB, switch gear room, crane, equipments, steel fabrications and blasting & painting.

On 31st May 2009, the Topsides weighs 18,000mt was jacked up 1m in preparation for the weighing and jacked up to another 5m on 7th June 2009 for access to insert 4 rows of skid beams under the Topsides. All preparations were ready to load out on the 26th July 2009. During this time, scaffold requirements were crucial and critical to avoid any unforeseen problems and delays.

Finally, the Topsides was successfully loaded out and sailed away on the 31st July 2009 as scheduled.

Due to the enormous size of the topsides measuring 75.5m(B) x 110m(L) x 26.5mH (the biggest FPSO platform in SE Asia), the compactness and complexity of the project where all disciplines about 2,000 workers in all, working safely side by side and achieving an astonishing milestone of more than 4 million man-hours without LTI. Multiheight has about 120 scaffolders during peak-time, contributing to the safe man-hours too. It’s a job well done!
